Time Lapse

Below is a time lapse video shot from my desk at work during the brief snow today

With the right camera settings and software time lapse videos can be extremely easy to produce. The first step is to set your camera to take a photo every x number of seconds over a longer period of time. It will take 30 still photos to progress the video one second – for example shooting for 2 hours at 10 second intervals will produce 720 frames or 24 seconds of footage.

The next step is to import all of the photos sequentially into a video editing software. Premiere pro makes this remarkably easy; assembling the entire piece of footage in a few clicks.

Step 1) open premiere pro and click file in the top right portion of the sceen

Step 2) go to import and select the folder storing all of the still images

Step 3) click on the first frame, click “numbered stills” and hit ok

Step 4) That’s essentially it. From here you can play with the speed and direction of time to give a different look to the footage

Supermoon

The moon was especially big tonight so I got out the tripod and took a handful of shots. These were taken with my Cannon Rebel T1i and my 58 MM  55-250 IS zoom lens with 100 ISO and shutter speeds varying between 1/40 and 1/60. Anything much slower than that caused light from the moon to bleed out into the frame.

The photos can also be viewed here on my iReport page

Grand Turk Island

A collection of footage from my recent trip to Grand Turk in the beginning of 2011. This video was shot from various parts around the island, but mainly from the observation deck of the ship. All footage was captured with my Cannon Rebel T1i at 720 30FPS and cut/exported with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.  For more information on Grand Turk please see my previous photo post.

San Juan Travel Video

This is a cut of footage taken around San Juan in the beginning of February 2011. My wife and I loved this city and spent hours walking from place to place taking everything in. If you ever get the chance this is definitely a place to see at least once.

Half Moon Cay

These are pictures from the last stop on our cruise – Half Moon Cay which is actually a private island owned by the cruise line. This was a great place to snorkel and spend time on the beach without being too crowded. My wife and I walked down past the tourist center along the shore and saw a little more of the island and reefs. A very cool destination.

St Thomas

This post includes pictures from our recent cruise stop in St Thomas in February 2011. If you want to see the sights of the cities and take in some of the local landscape you will definitely have to take a tour. Our cruise port was away from the shopping area and was surrounded by some less and desirable walking areas. At one point walking down the road an unmarked vehicle with tinted windows asked us if we needed a taxi – definitely had to be aware of our surroundings.

The shopping/tourist areas are great if you are looking to buy jewelry, clothes or souvenirs, but does not offer much else to do. On this particular trip my wife and I were not out to spend a lot of money or make any large purchase so our interest was not held for long. Another very frustrating thing about this port was the barrage of people trying to sell my something. This is a personal preference, but was a definite turn off.
